Come root for San Francisco’s youth at the Elks National Hoop Shoot Free Throw Contest, at the Salesian Boys & Girls Club in North Beach, 680 Filbert Street, San Francisco, on Sunday, December 10th, 2023! 2:30-6pm!
San Francisco Elks Lodge No. 3 is once again sponsoring this event, which promises to be a memorable and fun day for adults and kids alike. Children ages 8 to 12 will compete to sink the most of 25 free throws. At the contest, participants have the opportunity to connect with new friends and learn valuable skills, like hard work and good sportsmanship, which will help them succeed on and off the court. The national Hoop Shoot contest series begins at the local level, and winners advance through district, state and regional competitions, culminating at the National Finals this April in Chicago. Six contestants will be named National Champions, and will have their names permanently inscribed in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
It’s worth noting that the Bay District Elks had two kids advance to the State Competition level, with our 10-11 year old girl winning the entire State of California! Congratulations to her. (The San Francisco Elks Lodge covers all travel and expenses for the participants and their families at the District Level and beyond. Our State winner went as far as the Regional Competition in Las Vegas.)
Note: Age-groups are based on the contestant’s age on April 1, 2024.

The event kicks off with registration for 8-9 year olds beginning at 2:30pm at Salesian Boys & Girls Club in North Beach, 680 Filbert Street, San Francisco.
8-9 year olds will shoot at 3pm, the 10-11 year old age group will shoot at 4pm, and the 12-13 year olds will shoot at 5pm.
Please arrive 30 minutes before your age-group shooting time in order to get registered.)
Whether you are a kid participating in the contest, a parent interested in supporting San Francisco community events, or a volunteer willing to help make things run smoothly, we’re looking forward to seeing you there!
